It’s Road Trip Wednesday again! Every Wednesday, YA Highway’s contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question. This Week’s Topic:
What images inspire/ represent your WIP or favorite book?
I love to have inspirational images open on the desktop while I’m writing. Here are a few of my favorites from my current manuscript.

I am very excited to see everyone else’s inspiration!
One by one, the men and boys dunked their faces into the water, rubbing their masks clean. Each called out a prayer when he emerged. They asked for favor in the new fall cycle. They asked for food and prosperity. They asked to be fearless. It was the first time he’d seen a religious ceremony end without spilling blood.

I love your scene and how it goes perfectly with the images…there's definitely a sense of unease and intensity running through all of it. Very intriguing! Thank you for sharing.
Wow, that scene sounds really good! And those photos are so inspiring! Thanks for posting them.
Cool, Laurie! The snippet from your WIP is interesting, even out of context. And the pictures suggest rocks, caves, and some kind of ancient civilization…?
Love that I got to read your snippet and see the images! The tone is great, and I love those mossy rocks.
Thanks for sharing that snippet from your WiP. It's very well written and I'd love to know what comes before and what comes after 🙂
I see a running nature theme in your images. This makes me want to go outside for a walk.
I'm constantly seeing cool mossy rocks when we're hiking, but it's so hard to get nice pictures that don't just look like a mossy rock. I like how the first few pictures you chose have almost a skewed perspective.
Lovely, Laurie! They make me so curious about your WiP and the secrets it might hold. Thanks for sharing these with us!
These pictures and that snippet are so beautiful! Love it!
Those pictures are so pretty. They make me want to wander into the middle of no where and find such beautiful places. So glad you posted the lines from your story. They sound great. I'm really intrigued as to what's happening my mind is already wondering who they are and why they have masks they can't see 🙂
Thank you all for your kind comments. I'm not what you would call an 'outdoorsy' person, so beautiful images help me write in those kinds of settings. Those first three are from the Arkansas Ozarks. I'd love for some of you to do the Lucky 7 thing, if you haven't already!
Beautiful photos!
I like it, Laurie. It makes us wonder what the masks represent, why they're wearing them, and who these people are. Good job!!
Being highly visual, I'll put pics up on my computer as well. But I love to write to music.
